Roslindale Village Main Street (RVMS), an established non-profit with a ~40 year history of successful urban place-making, community development, and local business promotion and assistance, seeks a full-time Executive Director to lead the organization.

The mission of RVMS is to promote Roslindale Village as an appealing destination and dynamic center of our community bringing together local volunteers, businesses, and public agencies to strengthen the Village’s economic vitality, physical appearance, and unique local character. RVMS is a place-based economic development nonprofit that promotes a dynamic, resilient, and inclusive Roslindale Village catalyzing a locally-powered, economically sustainable 18-hour “live, work, play, grow” community built around the Main Streets catchment area. This work is carried out through board committees and three volunteer committees with leadership and guidance from the Executive Director.

The Executive Director will join the organization at an exciting time as we approach our 40th anniversary in 2025. From its grassroots beginnings, RVMS has grown into an organization which produces over 60 events each year, holds 9 months of Farmers Markets annually, and employs three full-time and one part-time staff. RVMS stands out as an organization with notable resources, a strong local reputation, and a strong financial position for considering its future.

RVMS Executive Director Position
Roslindale Village Main Street seeks a visionary organizational leader who can represent our mission and engage the RVMS community to support a vibrant district that promotes diversity, economic opportunity, and local ownership.
The new Executive Director will lead the organization into the next phase of the 3-year Strategic Plan adopted in 2023, building on the organization’s vision of Live, Work, Play, and Grow. They will be responsible for advising the Board on top priorities and identifying areas of opportunities along with challenges to address. This next phase for RVMS coincides with the City’s Squares & Streets program, with the potential for more development in Roslindale. The Executive Director will play a central role in ensuring the vision of RVMS is reflected in the Squares & Streets engagement process as it transitions from planning to implementation. The Executive Director will bring leadership to all areas of RVMS, including overall responsibility for the strategic, programmatic, financial, talent, and management operations of the organization.

Above all, the Executive Director will be energized by leading RVMS in living out its vision and achieving its mission. This leader will be passionate about amplifying the role of RVMS as we continue to build upon the work of our Strategic Plan and move toward the next phase of growth in the community. They will be an empathetic leader who focuses on deeply understanding their constituents and the Roslindale community.
Relationship Builder & Communicator:
As the “face of the organization,” the Executive Director is responsible for coordinating the outreach and communication efforts of the organization with a focus on reaching out to businesses and residents and communicating local concerns to the board. The ED will maintain and expand stakeholder engagement including, but not limited to, local businesses, community members, sponsors & supporters, City Departments and elected officials. The ED will effectively communicate the mission and vision of the organization to expand support including, but not limited to, fiscal support.
Business & People Manager:
The Executive Director will ensure that day-to-day operations, events, and activities are aligned with mission, visions, and strategic goals. They will be a strategic thinker who will work with RVMS’s Board to establish plans and methods to reach operational objectives, build sustainability into existing programs, and develop new opportunities to allow the organization to realize its full potential and secure its fiscal viability for the long-term. The Executive Director will identify opportunities for connections to raise its profile among businesses, residents and potential donors leading to future fundraising and donor opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

As a trusted and respected voice for RVMS, serve as the chief spokesperson and advocate for the
organization’s mission, programs, and resources through external communications (social media, emails, press, etc.), meetings, and 1:1 conversations. -
Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the organization, including finances, program priorities, and community relations. Provide guidance and direction to the organization on all financial matters, operational and staff development.

Manage a highly effective staff and recommend organizational structures that allow for the supervision and evaluation of quality execution while building unity and shared vision for the work. Recruit, retain, motivate, and inspire professional staff, volunteers, current and prospective donors, partners, and board members.

Maintain active 501c3 status and to ensure compliance with RVMS By-laws and Boston Main Streets contract requirements.

Approve and oversee all fundraising efforts in collaboration with the Board of Directors and Fundraising Committee including: semi-annual resident and business appeals; identify, write/edit, and submit grant applications; special fundraising campaigns; and events to increase individual giving such as the 02131 Club.

Oversee the planning and execution of community events along with staff, with a particular focus on the Annual Meeting and Gala. Regularly attend events in the community (both RVMS and otherwise) to represent the organization and be a familiar face to businesses and residents alike.

Guide the Board and Committee Chairs to forge and maintain relationships with catchment area local stakeholders as well as city and state agencies

Coordinate with the Board to implement current and future strategic plans to align with the organization's mission, vision, and long-term goals.

Position Requirements and Characteristics:

5+ years of professional experience; experience managing a team preferred.

Working knowledge (through education or experience) in any of the following areas: public sector, non-profit management, economic development, public relations, community organizing, urban planning, placemaking, fundraising, or small business administration.

Excellent written and oral communication skills and comfortable with public speaking; the ability to inform, inspire and connect stakeholders to RVMS; Bi-lingual or Multi-lingual is not required but Spanish proficiency is a plus.

Tech savvy with proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required; Google Drive; Apple OS; social media platforms; Canva and Adobe Suite (graphic design); Quickbooks Online (accounting); Constant Contact (newsletter); Wix (website design); Square (credit card processing); CRM systems (donor engagement and CRM), Rippling (payroll).

Excellent interpersonal skills and relationship-building skills; ability and willingness to work as part of a team and with staff at all levels.

While living in Roslindale is not a requirement, you must have the passion and interest to learn about and attend hyperlocal community initiatives and issues in addition to City-wide updates on placemaking, small business development, public art, transit, etc.

Position, Benefits & Compensation
Reports to: RVMS Board of Directors
Supervises: Two Full-time staff, 1 part-time staff
Status: Exempt/Full-Time; Flexible Hybrid work schedule (4 in-office days meaning meetings, business visits, events, etc.)
Compensation: $80,000 - $90,000 annual salary, commensurate with experience.
Benefits: 15 vacation days, 13 paid federal holidays; 8 days of sick time (accrued); health insurance, short-term disability and life insurance, parental leave; option to contribute to a SIMPLE IRA (RVMS matching at 3%) after one year of employment.
